Senior Mobile Engineer (Contract) - Greenfield Build with AI-First Development
I'm partnering with a forward-thinking organisation on a brand-new greenfield project and am looking for a contract Senior Mobile Engineer who thrives in hands-on build environments. This is initially a 6-month engagement with strong potential to extend.
What makes this role different? You won't just be writing React Native code — you'll be at the forefront of AI-assisted engineering. The team is embedding cutting-edge AI tools into their workflows (think Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Lovable and beyond), and you'll be one of the first engineers to help shape what AI-native development really looks like in practice.
What you'll be doing
- Building and delivering a React Native mobile app with full online/offline capability.
- Turning Figma designs into production-quality mobile interfaces, working with design systems.
- Integrating APIs: authentication, authorisation, device-level data, and secure local storage.
- Writing clean, test-driven code (unit, UI, and integration testing baked in).
- Creating mock services to enable rapid iteration.
- Working closely with designers and engineers to help embed AI-driven workflows into the development process.
- Sharing knowledge and helping upskill others (e.g. bridging JavaScript/TypeScript with enterprise stacks).
- Deep React Native experience - you've shipped production-quality apps.
- Proven experience with AI tools in development - you're already leveraging AI coding assistants, agents, or workflows.
- Strong background in APIs, secure integrations, and offline-first mobile design.
- Understanding of identity management and device-side data handling.
- Collaborative mindset - you'll be pairing, mentoring, and shaping dev practices.
- Previous work on secure or POS-style apps (payments exposure helpful, but not essential).
- Experience building customer-facing mobile apps.
- Mob programming exposure.
- Knowledge of printing capabilities within React Native/iOS.
